Huge water outage across London for thousands with schools forced to shut

Residents in West London potentially face not having access to any water this morning

A power issue is wreaking havoc across parts of London with customers left with no water or low water pressure this morning.

The issue, which was brought on by a power supply problem, has resulted in some schools being forced to shut for the day.


Thames Water said: "We’re really sorry if you have low pressure or no water.

"It’s been caused by a power supply problem which has affected our Ashford and Hampton water treatment works in west London.

"We’re working hard to fix the issue and to get things back to normal.

"We’ll provide further updates here as soon as we have more information."

Postcodes impacted include: CR4, E5, E8, EC1V, KT1, KT2, KT3, KT8, HA0, N1, N5, N15, N16, N17, NW1, NW2, NW10, SE1, SE11, SE16, SE17, SW4, SW8, SW9, SW13, SW14, SW15, SW18, SW19, TW1, TW2, TW4, TW5, TW7, TW8, TW10, TW11, TW12, TW14, TW17, UB1, UB2, UB6, W1H, W1H, W1M, W1N, W2, W3, W4, W6, W7, W10, W12, W13, W14.

A text message sent to a parent of a pupil in a postcode area impacted was also shared on social media.

It said: "Urgent: Please read. School will be closed today due to a local water supply issue.

"We have reported this to Thames Water who are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

"It is not safe for us to have students on site without water supply. Work will be posted on Google Classrooms."

The user who shared the update added: "All the local schools have had to close. This is is causing absolute chaos."

Twickenham MP Munira Wilson revealed constituents in her South West London seat were adversely impacted.

"I'm hearing some schools locally aren't opening this morning due lack of water," the Liberal Democrat MP said.

"Our supply in Whitton also stopped this morning. Thames Water need to sort this soon!"

She added: "I'm trying to get more information for local residents and alarmed that schools are having to close because of this issue."

Vineyard School in Richmond-upon-Thames was among schools telling parents to collect their children.

Thames Water have since said water supplies problem in South West London have been fixed.
